Eye Examinations

Most eye examinations are direct billed to Medicare.

We offer complete eyecare for glaucoma, cataract, diabetes, age related macular degeneration, visual field assessment (computerised perimetry), spectacles, contact lenses, keratoconus, post corneal graft vision correction, corneal topography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), laser vision corrective surgery assessments, second opinions, children's vision, binocular vision, orthokeratology (ortho-k) and all areas of eye health.

Our optometrists are therapeutically qualified which means we can treat eye infections and other issues which require prescription eye drops.  At this stage only about 15% of optometrists are qualified to do this and we strive to be as up to date with our training as possible.  Your eye specialist may ask you to see us to prescribe your eye medications in between visits or for us to manage your eye condition for the longer term.

Checking your vision to see if you require glasses or contact lenses is only one aspect of an eye examination.  We can also detect ocular health problems such as  ARMD, glaucoma and cataracts, and even general health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.  If you are over 50 years old you may ask yourself - "HOW'S MY MACULA?" - we have the digital imaging equipment and OCT equipment to tell you exactly "HOW YOUR MACULA IS!"

Our practice takes great pride in providing the most comprehensive eye examination possible and uses state-of-the-art equipment to assist us in the assessment of your vision and ocular health.

Even more important is our access to premium spectacle, sunglass and contact lenses so that the end product has the possibility of being the best!  We are NOT part of any buying group or franchise store so we selectively and carefully choose the optimum product for the best result for every patient.  We treat your eyes like our eyes - you might say we custom-eyes every eye every time.

DIABETIC EYE EXAMS - 

Every diabetic patient gets a photograph of their retina to ensure that there is not a problem.  A copy will be sent with a report to your GP and specialist so they can see exactly how things are going.  If there is any hint of macula involvement an OCT will be done also and results forwarded.  We have a very close working relationship with some of Australia's best retinal specialist ophthalmologists and can arrange further referral and monitoring in between care when needed.  More importantly YOU can see for yourself as your retinal picture is on a 42 inch LCD screen!

We use the latest optometric testing equipment as only premium eye care is acceptable:

Visual acuity equipment including:  Topcon auto-refractor, auto-keratometer, auto-pachometer (central corneal thickness), auto-tonometer and CV-5000 computerised refractor head and vision tester for extreme accuracy.  

Optical Coherence Tomography using Ziess technology "the gold standard in OCT imaging" gives us fine details of ARMD and glaucoma detection, management and care.  The retinal specialists trust Zeiss for this and so do we.  Our glaucoma patients are co-managed with specialist ophthalmologists and ARMD further care arranged if indicated when wet ARMD is discovered and/or has changed.  Macular degeneration is important to monitor regularly with many of our patients seen regularly for scans in case dry ARMD turns to wet ARMD.  Our OCT can also image the anterior segment helping us with mini-scleral and scleral contact lenses along with other RGP designs for our keratoconic, post corneal graft and irregular corneal patients.  

Digital retinal imaging using high definition Nikon (12MP) digital cameras and computerised imaging for early detection and monitoring of retinal pathology.

Medmont corneal topographer with digital contact lens simulation for complicated eyes and specialty contact lens fitting and ability to send imaging directly to laboratory for lens manufacture.

Medmont visual field analyser with video feed for accurate field assessment and monitoring for issues such as glaucoma, age related macular degeneration (ARMD) and field loss.

We have an extensive range of contact lens trial sets in both soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses.

Children's vision assessment tools are extensive to detect any issues that may hinder learning.  We aim to ensure that your child has the best visual skills for learning.
